Boston, MA - Pittsburgh Penguins forward, Matt Cooke, was found dead this morning in his hotel room at the Millenium Bostonian in Boston, MA. Initial reports show no foul play and all signs point to a prescription drug overdose.

The 31-year old from Belleville, Ontario had checked into the hotel with the team late last night following their game with New Jersey. This morning, teammate Pascal Dupuis found Cooke motionless and unresponsive. Police and EMTs quickly  arrived on the scene but were unable to revive him.

The Penguins are in town for a matchup with the Bruins at the TD Bank Garden tonight. Cooke had been the subject of much scrutiny following his season-ending hit on Marc Savard on March 7th. Media outlets have been building up tonight’s game as a chance for retribution, as it is the first time the two teams have met since the questionable hit. The Bruins were expected to exact revenge on the left-winger, who was surprisingly not given a suspension last week.
