Release date:  October 28, 2009
Starring:  James Purefoy, Max von Sydow  Solomon Kane is a fictional character created by the pulp-era writer Robert E. Howard. A 17th century Puritan, Solomon Kane is a somber-looking man who wanders the world with no apparent goal other than to vanquish evil in all its forms. His adventures, published mostly in the pulp magazine Weird Tales, often take him from Europe to the jungles of Africa and back.

Ummm…Van Helsing, anyone?  Purefoy channeled Gerard Butler a bit with a few of those one-liners as well.  If that trailer doesn’t do it for you, the film does have at least one saving grace.  Pete Postlethwaite has a role – otherwise known as “that guy” from The Lost World, The Usual Suspects, Amistad, The Last of the Mohicans, Alien, and Dragonheart.  Yup, Kobayashi.  And in case you’re wondering if I have the Dragonheart trailer handy, you better fucking believe I have the Dragonheart trailer handy.  Vote and watch, kids.  (10 = good)

Van Helsing was a Solomon Kane rip-off. The look of Van Helsing was a copy of a Solomon Kane artwork created prior to the Van Helsing film. The Van Helsing character is an old man in the books and the director just copied aspects of Solomon Kane, to make the old boring professor more interesting and contemporary.

Besides, Solomon Kane is deadly serious. Nothing campy, silly or joky about it. This is not Van Helsing, this is the real deal, real Sword and Sorcery without any silly sidekicks or Follywood winks.

This movie is absolutely not going to suck and the majority of web reviews and dedicated movie goers who posted their reviews yet hinted at being a pretty good movie.
