Columbus Dispatch – A fired deputy will be on probation for five years for feeding a tainted sandwich to a prisoner in the Franklin County jail.
Joseph M. Cantwell, 38, of Lewis Center in Delaware County, admitted violating state health codes as part of a plea deal today in Franklin County Environmental Court. He could have been sent to jail for up to 90 days but will avoid that if he completes probation without incident.
Cantwell was fired by Sheriff Jim Karnes in May because he fed a bologna sandwich to an inmate that had been wiped against another inmate’s penis. He and another deputy photographed the February incident in the Downtown jail.
Joseph Copeland – the prisoner who ate the sandwich – and two other prisoners have now sued the county.
Yes, a sandwich rubbed on a guys’ crotch region is about as “taint-ed” as it gets. Ba dump ching.
