That was some game, wasn’t it? A year had passed since Brady last took the field in a regular season contest, but that didn’t stop Patriot fans from building high expectations.

It didn’t take long for me to realize that this game was not to be a cake walk. Welker and Brady appeared to be out-of-sync from the get-go. Our running game was fairly disappointing. Jerod Mayo was sidelined before he even broke a sweat. Turnovers and penalties eventually had us looking at an 11 point deficit late in the 4th quarter.

But then something awesome happened, like any great champion they found a way to win. Sure, Tom Brady was great in the final minutes of this game, but I’d like to give credit to 2 other players as well.

Ben Watson really showed me something last night. When Daniel Graham was dropping balls left and right for the pats a few years back, Watson looked like a star in comparison. The speed and hustle he demonstrated when he took out Champ Bailey at the goal line after running the length of the field in January of 2006 made him a fan favorite. However, the last two years have seen him battle injuries and dropped balls. It was nice to see him make a new mark as a clutch performer last night.

The other guy that deserves a lot of credit is Brandon Meriweather. He was pummeling receivers all game after catch, but remarkably they always held onto the ball. Finally, when we needed it most, his hit set a turnover in motion. After a strong blow to Mckelvin, he stood the star return man up and allowed his teammates to strip the ball. If there is an equivalent to a Tommy Point in football, that was it. All in all, the game gave us an entertaining finish and most importantly a W.

For those of you that bet the Pats to cover the spread, my apologies. For the rest of us, that game was like masturbating to the bra section of the JC Penney catalog. It’s not the ideal means to an end, but the end is still fantastic.
