Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day

It’s finally a reality…10 years after the original hit the big screen, the Boondock Saints return. I’m pretty sure I heard rumblings about this sequel five years ago, but like Dr. Dre’s Detox album, it’s been a victim of procrastination.

I was a huge fan of Boondock Saints. Any movie set in Boston is off to a good start, but this one was classic. That said, I can’t say I’m overly excited about the sequel. 10 years is a long time between movies and that is definitely not a good thing. Hollywood’s recent track record has shown that some stories cannot be revived after a long hiatus.

The delay could be attributed to a number of factors. My best guess is that the director and cast had been waiting for the right script, but their standards dropped considerably in the bad economy. Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus haven’t had a big role in years.

Anyway, I hope I’m wrong and this movie kicks ass. It may not have Willem Dafoe, but it does have Julie Benz, who has been on my cougar hit list since the first season of Dexter.
