Actual video of beer runs
STOCKTON, CA – The manager of an AM/PM in Stockton said a group of young people had swarmed his store every weekend for the past month in a mass shoplifting frenzy. But when they returned early Saturday morning, police were waiting.
Stockton police arrested 24 people in the sting operation at the store near the Arch Road exit off Highway 99. Ten of those arrested were juveniles.
The AM/PM manager, who did not want his name used, said police in unmarked cars were waiting when the group arrived around 1 o’clock Saturday morning. As the group swarmed the store, backup units arrived to take everyone into custody.
The swarming incidents are known as “beer runs,” and several Stockton beer runs are featured on YouTube. The store manager said they are frightening to his staff as the thieves vault the front counter to grab cartons of cigarettes while the clerks watch helplessly. Typical losses exceed $500, according to the manager.
