Ryan Seacrest To Earn $45 Million From Idol

He hasn’t nabbed that Primetime Emmy yet, but Ryan Seacrest has landed himself one hell of a consolation prize: The biggest pay raise in reality-TV history.

The American Idol emcee has signed a whopping $45 million contract extension with the show’s coproducer CKX’s 19 Entertainment, and he’ll continue lording over the top-rated talent competition for another three years.

Seacrest’s new deal dwarfs the $5 million-a-season salary the 34-year-old currently earns. It also keeps him on Idol through 2012 and makes him the highest-paid reality host—ever.

It amazes me that someone can be so grossly overpaid for a show like American Idol. If it weren’t for the tingling ‘ginies of millions of pre-teen girls who missed out on the boy band era of the late ’90s, this show would be nothing. How did its concept translate into multiple seasons? Shouldn’t there only be ONE American Idol? Didn’t Kelly Clarkson beat out the rest of the world the first time? Shouldn’t every other season result in 2nd, 3rd, 4th place, etc.?

It really sickens me to know that some other male bloggers out there (I won’t mention any names) fall off their stools for this show. Besides producing William Hung and that really hot country singer, this show has done nothing to entertain me.

But good for you Ryan, it’s great to see such tremendous reporting skills rewarded…
